Our Parent Committee

Every year HTK has an active Committee, if you are interested in any of these roles for the new year please email the President of the Executive committee expressing interest and what position.  It's fun, a great way to meet new people and get involved with your children's early years education!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the meetings really long and boring?

NO!  Our meetings are held on the once a month from 7.30pm – 9.30pm.  The committee is a group of parents just like you. We have discussions and make decisions about the kinder over some drinks at a relaxed venue along with a few laughs.

What roles are available?

There are several roles available on our main committee including President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Enrolment Assistant/Child Safety Officer, Communications & Marketing Officer, Policy Officer and Grants Officer.  Most of these roles suit people who have basic administrative skills (mostly typing in word/excel and writing emails).  There is no requirement to have work experience in the role!  Our Maintenance and Working Bee Coordinator role is more hands-on and suit people with practical or with “handy” skills or contacts with tradies and those comfortable with delegating work.

That role sounds hard – I don’t know if I have the skills or experience to do it?

There is a comprehensive handbook including templates, timelines and detailed instructions for each role and we can give you as much support as you need.  As long as you have a little bit of time you are willing to give, you can make a huge difference to our kinder.

Won’t someone else sign-up so I don’t need to?

We are a community based kinder and as we only have approximately 70 families each year, we need at least one third of our families to join our committee or one of our subcommittees!  If you would prefer a more socially focused group, try our fundraising subcommittee or be a group rep, if you are goal orientated and like a challenge, join our social event subcommittee, if you want to get to know the staff and contribute to keeping our preschool in operation, our main committee is for you!

I don’t want to be involved in any day-to-day operations – is there something that’s more fun?

Our social and fundraising roles are good fun and vital in contributing financially to the kinder to improve our resources and the experiences of our children, to help maintain our buildings and grounds and to develop and sustain the spirit and culture of our preschool community.

Our group reps form a social sub-committee who arrange social activities for their group, as well as a welcome BBQ at the start of the year.

The Fundraising Sub-Committee work together to arrange fun events, the Bunnings BBQ, product drives and mementos of the kinder year to raise funds for our kinder.

The Social Sub-Committee plan and run our annual fundraising/social event including entertainment, venue and prizes for an auction.

Subcommittee members do not need to attend the main committee meetings.

What’s in it for me?

Glad you asked!  Here are some of the benefits of joining the Committee:

How do I sign up or get more information?

The nomination forms are sent via EdSmart to families and are also available in the kinder foyer, along with the signup list.  Have a chat with our friendly staff any time for more information!  All positions will be elected at our Annual General Meeting.
